Just 30 minutes south of Lake Maggiore the following wine regions extend: Ghemme, Sizzano, Boca and Fara, generally, the whole region is referred to as Novara Hills.

Furthermore, just beyond the Sesia river, in the province of Vercelli, there is the renowned wine region of Gattinara.

The quality of the local wine has steadily increased in the last decade and some wineries, such as Le Piane a Boca and Travaglini in Gattinara, can now compete with their most famous cousins, the famous Barolo and Barbaresco, also produced with the same grape. nebbiolo.

The denominations Ghemme and Gattinara have obtained the DOCG and therefore must comply with particularly strict rules and regulations, while the other wine regions have obtained the less severe DOC quality denomination.

Viticulture is experiencing a renaissance even much further north in the Ossola mountainous valley and on a very small scale in Angera where there are the only vineyards that directly overlook Lake Maggiore.
