A complete guide to Lago Maggiore

Dagnente

A few steps from the villa is the center of the pretty village of Dagnente, one of the few villages in the area that still has a restaurant-bar and a couple of shops. The highlight of the village is the church, located on a hill and with a breathtaking view of the southern part of the lake. After enjoying the abundant lunch at the local restaurant Arca di Noè, you can take advantage of the football or basketball field in the village. If you still feel fit, there are several beautiful paths for walking or mountain biking through the woods behind Dagnente.

Arona

Fascinating lake town little known outside of Italy, it is the undisputed capital of the nightlife of the lake, which offers a myriad of wonderful traditional restaurants and bars, frequented mainly by the Italians, in its picturesque medieval core. While the rest of the lake shuts down during the winter, Arona caters mainly to Italians, its bars and restaurants remain open all year round. It is a must to visit the fortress of Arona, located above Arona from where you can enjoy a splendid panorama of the lake, take the boat for a jump to Angera and its castle, climb inside the large iron statue of San Carlo to look out over the lake.

Stresa

On the western side of Lake Maggiore are Stresa and the three Borromean Islands, among the most sought after tourist attractions in Italy. The islands are named after the aristocratic Borromea family, who still spend their summer holidays on Isola Madre, the most exotic and peaceful island. Isola Bella has been transformed into a large luxurious garden and a residence, while the third island, named "dei Pescatori" after the fishing community, has remained intact to continue its traditional lifestyle.

Orta

Located on Lake Orta and just 30 minutes from White Lilac is the town of Orta. In every corner of Orta there are picturesque squares, narrow streets with ancient palaces and gardens. The magic of the place is the combination of the age of the buildings, the colors, the textures and the light.

At the foot of the Sacro Monte where it is recommended to climb for a breathtaking view of the lake and the small island of Orta san Giulio.
